BACH SECULAR CANTATAS
Maison symphonique de Montréal | 7:30 pm
1600, rue St-Urbain
Pascale Beaudin, Soprano
Jacques-Olivier Chartier, Tenor
Nathaniel Watson, Baritone

“Bach Secular Cantatas” is the MCO’s Montreal Bach Festival concert for 2011 and features Pascale Beaudin (soprano), Jacques-Olivier Chartier (tenor) and Nathaniel Watson (baritone) as soloists with MCO in J.S. Bach’s Coffee and Peasant Cantatas.
These amusing Cantatas preset the light-hearted side of the great Johann Sebastian Bach. The Coffee Cantata tells the story of a father who tries to discourage his daughter from drinking coffee- a beverage considered vile. His threat? He tells his daughter she cannot be wed until she gives up the java bean! The Peasant Cantata, on the other hand, tells the story of two young lovers. Not unlike today, their interests in the relationship are wholly different…

Bach Coffee Cantata, No 211
  Peasant Cantata, No 212

This concert is presented as part of the 2011 Montreal Bach Festival.
